My Perspective on Syria

It seems that Yahoo! contributor network likes hitting me up for writing assignments.  They recently
asked me to express how I feel about the situation in Syria since I was a part of the Iraq campaign (in a boat, not on the ground, mind you).

There have been quite a few responses to my article.  Join in and spread the word!

WW2 Vet Beaten to Death, Jogger Shot: Where Is the Outrage?

To my loyal readers (if there are any left) I sincerely apologize for my absence.  I started a new job
just this past week, so it has been somewhat of a draining transition.  So let's kick things off with some good old-fashioned controversy.

A few days ago, a white, 88-year-old World War II veteran was beaten to death by a black teen.  Delbert Belton, affectionately known by his friends as "Shorty" because of his stature (just over 5 feet), walked out of a local pool hall he frequented and was assaulted by the teen in what police suspect was a robbery.  A few days later, Belton died from his wounds.

A black teen beats an old white man to death . . . where is the outrage?  Where are the race protests?  I don't see anyone calling the assailant a racist who clearly profiled Belton and murdered him because he's white.  Any time a black person perpetrates senseless violence upon a white person, all we hear from the newsmedia is the bare-bone facts.

Why haven't Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson taken to the bully-pulpit screaming for racial justice?  Here's the short answer: they don't care, because it makes no difference to them when a black man kills a white man.

Here's a better story for everyone.  Last week, a white, Australian baseball player was shot from a moving vehicle.  The assailants were all black.  When initially questioned by the police, one of them said that they shot him because they "were bored and wanted something to do."

But the fun doesn't end there.  The police discovered racist tweets from one of the assailants, James Edwards Jr..  Here is what he has to say about white people:

"90% of white ppl are nasty. #HATE THEM"

And . . .

"Ayeee I knocced out 5 woods since Zimmerman court!:) lol shit ima keep sleepin shit! #ayeeee.”

For the uninitiated, the term "woods" is a euphamism for white people.  So here we actually have evidence that suggests that this murder may have been racially motivated, but we're still not seeing any protests.  Also, these teens will not be charged with a hate crime, because apparently there is not enough evidence to support the charge.  What?!  Since when did evidence matter when investigating someone for a hate crime?

George Zimmerman is being investigated for civil rights violations based solely on the fact that a non-black killed a black, yet in this case we have a murderer who has publicly admitted to hating white people, and we are supposed to believe that this is not a hate crime?

Jesse Jackson tweeted about this, saying that he'll pray for the family of the victim, but he's certainly not calling Edwards a racist.

Why?

We all know the answers to that.  The newsmedia outlets know that black-on-white violence does not stir the ratings, and they know this because they understand a fundamentally dangerous flaw in mainstream American thought: that black people cannot be racist.

We are told to have pitty for a pot-smoking, trouble-making teen who fucked with the wrong neighborhood watchmen, committed assault, and was subsequently shot in self-defense, yet no one seems to give two shits that an elderly white man was beaten to death.  There is no public outcry when a white man is randomly shot by a black man who openly admits he hates white people.

Racism is a belief that some people are inherently better than others simply because of the color of their skin.  Racism is not based on statistics (I'm sorry, but it's not racist to make the objective observation that most people in prison for committing violent crime are black), racism is based on pure ignorant hatred.

The world is over 150 years removed from black slavery, so there is no one alive who was a party to that or a victim of it.  So why do black people get a pass for hating white people?  The President of the United States is mixed black and white, yet we're supposed to believe that black people are still somehow being oppressed by whites, and thus their hatred of me, a white man, is totally justified?

Until we see a "Justice for Chris" rally led by Sharpton and Jackson, then every last asshole that called George Zimmerman a racist is a hypocritical douche who lacks the intellectual capacity to understand concepts that require the most basic level of higher-order thinking.
